shanghai rail authority announced monday that it will add 86 pairs of train services from may 27 to 30 to cope with the increasing travel demand during the dragon boat festival holiday.
some of the extra trains will ply between hefei, capital of east china’s anhui province, and popular destinations like huangshan, home to the renowned huangshan mountain, nanjing, capital of east china’s jiangsu province, and shanghai, said shanghai railway bureau, which operates railroads in shanghai and neighboring zhejiang, jiangsu and anhui provinces.
the administration expects to handle 8.7 million trips during the upcoming holiday, representing a year-on-year rise of 6.1 percent.
the holiday runs from may 28 to 30, with may 28 projected to be the peak traveling day. on that day, about 2.45 million passengers from the yangtze river delta region are expected to take train rides, according to the bureau.
many chinese people go traveling or visit family and friends by train during the three-day break.
to handle the increasing demand, the bureau will add 86 pairs of trains. among them, 62 ones are medium- and short-distance services.
