ye lianping, a 91-year-old retired teacher who has volunteered to help rural children learn english for 19 years;
xu haifeng, who claimed china’s first olympic gold in 1984;
zhang jie, a policeman who managed to protect the lives and property of the people but suffered 30 percent second-degree burns on his face and body;
chen xian, who has offered free legal aid to ethnic minorities for six consecutive years;
jin yuqin, a village head who contributed to local poverty alleviation;
pan jianwei, a leading scientist who has been at the center of china’s efforts to reach quantum supremacy.
