on may 18th, the national cultural heritage administration announced the second phase of the archaeological findings from tomb no. 1 at wuwangdun, which is believed to belong to the highest-ranking chu tomb of the warring states period, possibly that of king kaolie of the chu state

more than 150 pieces (sets) of bronze artifacts were extracted from the east chamber, with a wide variety that includes cooking vessels, food containers, wine vessels, and water vessels, many of which are new types never seen before. currently, the excavation work in the eight side chambers is nearing completion, with over 3,000 pieces (sets) of various cultural relics and a large number of animal and plant remains having been extracted. expert appraisal indicates that the artifacts unearthed from the wuwangdun tomb possess typical characteristics of late warring states period chu culture, such as form, ornamentation, and combinations. the identity of the main occupant of the wuwangdun tomb is likely to be king kaolie of the chu state.

the archaeological achievements at wuwangdun tomb vividly showcase the splendid accomplishments of chinese civilization. the excavation and conservation efforts at wuwangdun tomb will play a significant role in promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of china's outstanding traditional culture. reporters learned that the most important central chamber of tomb no. 1 at wuwangdun is scheduled for excavation in june of this year. it is believed that the upcoming opening of the main coffin will unravel even more mysteries.
