on december 6th, our reporter visited the site of comprehensive remediation project (phase i) of western coal mining subsidence area in huainan city, anhui province to understand the miracle of redevelopment of the former "industrial wasteland". 
chunshen lake was formed due to coal mining subsidence the comprehensive remediation project (phase i) of western coal mining subsidence area in huainan city is located in xiejiaji district, including chunshen lake and some coal mining subsidence areas of liyi mine, li’er mine and xieyi mine. at present, the eastern entrance area of phase i has been basically completed and has the basic conditions for opening to the public. it is planned to open to the public in the first quarter of 2024. the comprehensive remediation project of the western coal mining subsidence area focuses on ecological restoration, aiming to create an ‘urban green kidney’, regulate the regional water environment, and provide leisure and relaxing places for the public. the area not only planted more than 50 kinds of trees such as chinese fir and ginkgo tree, but also has music fountains, special-shaped luminous pavilions, sightseeing boardwalks and other tourist facilities. "in the past, there were coal trucks everywhere, and the coal dust was so heavy that we didn't even wear white socks. now it has become a picturesque park. i look forward to its opening soon, so that i can take my family for a walk," said ms. cheng, a resident from local area. 
the sightseeing boardwalks on chunshen lake at present, huainan city is focusing on the comprehensive remediation of urban coal mining subsidence areas in the chunshen lake area, creating a demonstration area for urban ecological restoration and a model area for the transformation of resource-based urban areas.
