on august 12, the second press conference for the 10th edition of the 2024 ihf women's youth (u18) handball world championship was held in chuzhou, where the competition schedule was announced. from august 14 to 25, teams from 32 countries and regions will compete in 116 intense matches over 12 days. at the press conference, marco tosi brandi, the technical representative of the international handball federation, and wang yimin, vice president of the chinese handball association, attended and introduced details about the event. the 2024 ihf women's youth (u18) handball world championship brings together 32 top youth women's teams from around the globe. according to the competition regulations, the participating teams are divided into eight groups (a to h), each consisting of four teams. the chinese team is placed in group e. handball has a strong grassroots foundation and wide participation in anhui province, with both men's and women's teams having won national championships. currently, 14 cities in the province have developed youth handball programs, with a total of 5,183 registered youth handball players. chuzhou is known as the "eastern capital of handball," boasting a first-class international handball arena. it has hosted large-scale events such as the "32nd summer olympic women's handball asia qualifiers" and collaborates with the chinese handball association to develop a national women's youth team. at the paris olympics, chuzhou athlete du jijuan was selected for the beach handball exhibition match all-star lineup, making her the only female athlete from asia to be included.
