(ecns)--the three-day nato summit began in washington on tuesday. according to media reports, japan, south korea, australia, and new zealand will sign an agreement with nato at the summit to increase cooperation in the asia-pacific region. as a product of the cold war, nato should have been disbanded, however, over the years, it has served as a war machine and facilitated u.s. hegemony. nato has outlived its usefulness and become nothing but washington's axe, spear and spade, reaping hegemonic benefits. at the same time, it suppresses competitors, controls its allies, and causes global turmoil.
