on the morning of june 25th, the matchmaking and exchange meeting for u.s. enterprises in anhui was held in the shushan economic development zone in hefei. the purpose of this event was to deepen the understanding of us-funded enterprises about anhui, vigorously attract and utilize foreign investment, and further promote the high-quality development of the open economy across the province. the event was jointly organized by the anhui provincial department of commerce and the american chamber of commerce in shanghai, attracting 17 foreign-funded enterprises such as 3m, dun & bradstreet, energy transfer, valeo, bd (becton, dickinson and company), and air products to participate. 
anhui's regional innovation capability ranks 7th in china, with all 41 industrial categories, the province's total financial and technological input ranks 4th nationwide, anhui's vehicle production reached 2.491 million units in 2023, ranking 2nd in the country, and the exports of domestic brand vehicles have ranked first in the country for 21 consecutive years. anhui also has a 1,831-kilometer high-grade waterway "connected to the sea", and more than 200 air routes "criss-crossing the globe". at the meeting, the anhui provincial department of commerce comprehensively introduced the development of anhui's open economy and the creation of an internationalized, first-class business environment from five aspects: technological innovation, industrial characteristics, inland hinterland, ecological environment, and history and culture; the representative of hefei city also made a city promotion speech. the rapid economic and social development of anhui province and hefei city, especially the great opportunities brought by industrial upgrading, have instilled confidence in the representatives of foreign-funded enterprises to invest in anhui. in the first five months of this year, anhui's foreign trade import and export amounted to 322.57 billion yuan, up 5.7% year-on-year, ranking 10th nationwide and 1st in the central region. among them, the import and export of goods trade with the united states was 36.94 billion yuan, up 6.3% year-on-year. by the end of 2023, nearly 5,000 foreign-funded enterprises have taken root in anhui province, and 192 enterprises of 92 fortune global 500 companies have been established in anhui. the united states is one of the top ten sources of foreign investment in our province, with more than 300 existing enterprises. "we are discussing some new investment projects," said ding hongyu (henry ding), senior vice president of 3m and president of 3m china, expressing that through this event, he understood anhui's future development, and the focus investment directions in new energy vehicles, electronic information, display manufacturing, and environmental protection are very much in line with 3m's future development. "anhui has strong capabilities in innovation, with many renowned research institutes and universities, and we are delighted to see that anhui has made the biomedical industry one of the ten emerging industries," said li ping, vice president of bd china, stating that as the chairman unit of the medical device committee of the china international import expo, bd has a good platform and resources, and also hopes to attract these innovative medical device companies to settle in china and anhui.
