on the morning of may 16, the third phase of volkswagen (china) technology co., ltd.'s project commenced in hefei. three days later, on the evening of may 18, with the slow pouring of the first batch of concrete, the first cushion cap of the third phase project was successfully completed seven days ahead of schedule. this milestone signifies a phase-based achievement in the project’s construction, marking the official entry into a new stage of construction. the third phase project, which has begun construction, will be the largest r&d center of the volkswagen group outside of germany. it covers an area of approximately 110,000 square meters, with a built-up area of around 226,000 square meters. the project plans to build research and development office buildings, testing workshops, parking structures, and other supporting facilities. it will actively engage in r&d activities related to new energy vehicle platforms, complete vehicles, components, and software-hardware integration and testing. the aim is to establish a local automotive r&d industry chain ecosystem covering software and hardware. the project is expected to be completed by 2027, with the testing workshops scheduled to be operational by 2025.
