on april 9th, the hurun research institute released the "global unicorn index 2024," which lists non-listed companies worldwide that have been founded after the year 2000 and have a valuation of over $1 billion. there are a total of 1,453 unicorn companies globally, with hefei having six of them. this represents an increase of three companies compared to last year, and hefei ranks tenth among domestic cities in terms of the total number of unicorns. the six hefei-based unicorn companies on the list include vital electronic technology, seeya technology, laoxiangji, qingdian photovoltaic, and origin quantum. these companies operate in various industries, including new materials, consumer electronics, food and beverages, new energy, and quantum technology. unicorn companies serve as indicators of regional innovative capacity, vitality, and ecosystem. the number of unicorn companies in a city to some extent reflects the quantity of innovative entities in that city. in recent years, hefei has been promoting industrial innovation through technological innovation. on average, five high-tech enterprises are born in hefei every day. the integrated circuit, new display, and artificial intelligence industries have been included in national-level strategic emerging industry clusters. the intelligent voice industry has been included in the national advanced manufacturing industry cluster. six 100-billion-yuan-level emerging industries, including new energy vehicles, photovoltaic energy storage, new displays, smart home appliances, high-end equipment, and artificial intelligence, are rapidly rising in hefei.
