as one of the top 10 manufacturing provinces in china, anhui is making steady progress in the high-quality development of its manufacturing industry. back in 2021, anhui became one of the country's top 10 manufacturing provinces for the first time, when the added value of its manufacturing industry surpassed 1 trillion yuan ($144.3 billion) by 2020. in 2021, anhui's output of refrigerators, washing machines, color tvs, and air conditioners ranked second in the country. and every one in three refrigerators, four washing machines and five air conditioners produced in china was "made in anhui." meanwhile, the province's new energy vehicle output hit 252,000 units in 2021, ranking first in the central regions and fifth in china. in addition, its output of industrial robots climbed to 16,000 units, with the production of six-axis industrial robots topping the country. figures from the ministry of industry and information technology show that the added value of china's manufacturing sector reached 31.4 trillion yuan in 2021. anhui is reaping the benefits of its marked achievements in bolstering the high-quality development of its manufacturing industry, said niu nutao, director of the anhui provincial department of economy and information technology. government data showed that in the past 10 years, anhui's industrial added value of enterprises with a main business income topping 20 million yuan each ushered in an average annual growth rate of 9.9 percent, ranking third in the country, first in the central regions and first in the yangtze river delta region. in addition, its manufacturing industry, and its digital economy have both exceeded 1 trillion yuan. anhui also witnessed the high-quality development index of its manufacturing industry rank seventh in the country and first in the central regions. anhui has established a working concept "to use industries to empower the province, and entrepreneurship to enrich people's income, while seeking integrated development through reform and innovation," said cui yiqun from the provincial department. hefei, the provincial capital, is gradually changing from a small city situated between the yangtze and huaihe rivers into a "city of innovation" renowned nationwide. in 2004, the ministry of science and technology approved hefei to become the country's first "national science and technology innovation pilot city", while on feb 27,2017, the hefei comprehensive national science center was officially unveiled as the country's second comprehensive national science center. it was also the first national innovation platform in the central and western regions of china. niu said the province will further reinforce its high-quality manufacturing this year. for advanced manufacturing, anhui is seeking major breakthroughs in some areas, including integrated circuits, new displays, intelligent voice, industrial robots, new energy vehicles and high-performance new materials. anhui conch group, founded in september 1996 and based in wuhu, is the first a-share and h-share listed company in the cement industry. with more than 150 subsidiary companies distributed in 21 regions of china, and in overseas regions such as indonesia, myanmar, laos and cambodia, the group is operating with a staff of more than 50,000 people. the business of conch group includes cement, chemical building, energy conservation, environmental protection, international trade and hotel catering. in hefei, the listed iflytek has become a national key software enterprise dedicated to intelligent speech and language technologies, software and chip product development, speech information services and integration of e-government systems. established in 1999, it has seen its core technology－intelligent speech technology－rank top in the world.
